Mission Statement

Message from Coach Palmer:

In my life, wrestling has always been more than just a sport.  In the state of Pennsylvania, wrestling is a creed—it is a way of life.  It teaches and demands discipline and strength in all aspects of our lives.  Also, more so than in any other sport I have encountered, wrestling fosters respect amongst it competitors.  Wrestlers are part of a special community that is like no other in sport.  As such it has been my special honor and privilege to head the program that initiated me into the heroic and consuming endeavor that is wrestling.

My mission since the days of my initial involvement with Daniel Boone wrestling has been to raise the program up above any previous accomplishment.  In the early 80’s Mr. Don Weaver, the program’s founder, took wrestlers to the highest levels in state competition and produced two championship teams.  He set the bar high, and as of yet, no Boone team has approached the same level of success—my mission is to raise that bar.

Concurrent with this primary goal, I believe that success in all things derives from character.  Without strength of will, success is nothing but a dream.  I work to instill in all those who choose to pursue wrestling that nothing can substitute for the satisfying simplicity of hard work.  In victory and defeat, we work to surpass our previous limits.  Only through a unified commitment to this constant struggle for improvement can we hope for success.  In some sports, a star can change a team—a seven foot center in basketball or an all-star quarterback in football or a dominate pitcher in baseball can raise a team to a new level: in wrestling, it takes every individual.  Success in wrestling is built over years by those who have the courage to expect victory and who also have the will to sacrifice through failure.

So I say to all those who are part of this wrestling family, together let us work, let us sacrifice, and let us make a name for Daniel Boone wrestling.
